Gradient Coffee was born from a simple belief:

For years the coffee industry has wrapped itself in jargon and pompous tasing notes...

It's left everyday coffee drinkers feeling confused, judged, or just plain bored.

John lived in that world long enough to know it didn’t have to be like that. So he built the opposite.

A roasting company where people are welcomed, taught, and treated with respect. A place where questions aren’t embarrassing — they’re expected. A place where a dark roast drinker is just as valued as the person exploring Ethiopian naturals for the first time.

Gradient Coffee is specialty coffee without the gatekeeping.
Just great beans, roasted with intention and explained in a way that actually helps people.

At the heart of it, I love helping brands tell their stories visually — in a way that feels authentic, intentional, and alive.

The best coffee is the one you actually like, not the one you’re told you should like.

Flavor Triangle

Everyone's taste matters.

John has always been the person who explains things without making you feel small or uninformed. So when he started roasting, the mission became clear:

Make good coffee accessible.
Make the information clear.
Make the experience welcoming.
Make the daily cup feel elevated — not intimidating.

The Gradient Philosophy

Coffee exists on a spectrum — from bold and classic to bright and adventurous — and every person lands somewhere different. Instead of forcing people into a mold, Gradient helps you discover where you belong on that spectrum.

No pretentious notes.
No judging how you take your coffee.
No acting like you’ve failed if you add cream and sugar.

You deserve to understand the coffee you’re drinking and why you like it.

This Is How We Do It

The Flavor Triangle

Most roasters explain flavor with over-the-top descriptions that make you feel even more lost than before. John built something more useful: the Flavor Triangle.

Every roast falls somewhere between:

Sweet (Blue) – comforting, smooth
Earthy (Red) – bold, grounding
Bright (Green) – lively, adventurous
